The Heart of the Author
Interview with Kimberly Dewberry, author of
"What would you do if your estranged, homeless, alcoholic father
showed up at your door? What if you knew in three weeks you would be saying good-bye to him forever?
One daughter knows deep down that her only choice, for his sake and hers, is to forgive—but how?
In her latest book, Three Weeks to Forgiveness: God’s Redemption
in the Dark Places of Addiction,
Dewberry describes life growing up in an alcoholic household, the patterns she repeated as a result, and
how God doesn’t waste one moment of our lives. Three Weeks to Forgiveness is a gripping story of
parental love, turmoil, forgiveness, and God’s redemption of her past"
Kimberly discusses her feelings of unworthiness because of her father's drinking. She made self-destructive choices until she realized how much her Heavenly Father loved her. His hand was on her shoulder showing her how to show forgiveness, grace and mercy to her homeless father who found his way home three weeks before his death.
In her grief and brokeness she came to realize how much she had wandered away from God and how He wanted to redeem the heartbreak, bitterness and ugliness and turn it into a beautiful relationship.
Breaking the shame of Satan's accusations, she found God's pursuing love. A counselor helped her see her own need for a recovery program and for the first time in years she opened her Bible.
The road back to God was begun when she admitted she had no control over her life. Her grief drove her to the Lord. It was a painful process but she found acceptance and love. She wants to share how God redeemed her life with others.
We are all broken. Our circumstances are different but our emotions are the same. We need God. He will take us as low as necessary to bring us back to Himself, in His perfect will and His precise timing.
