Are you overwhelmed with busyness? At the beginning of the year I asked my Facebook followers to take a test to determine their word for the year. Many chose SIMPLIFY.
My guest on The Heart of the Author Podcast today is
Billie Jauss, author of
When her pastor asked, "What is God doing through you?" she made a list, then noticed every statement began with "I am..." Realizing she depended on her own strength, she began a journey to make room and let God work. But it wasn't just one more thing on her to-do list. She evaluated what she was doing and why she was doing it. Though some of them were godly things, God wasn't leading. It's easier to do than be.
She surrendered to God and began to connect with Him. Once she got out of the way and away from what she though she should be doing, then she went where He was leading.
"We will never get rid of busyness, but we need to be aware of where we are spiritually."
Billie recommends we let God pull instead of pushing things. Make room in your life so Jesus is Lord. Clean out the junk in your mind and let Him power wash your spirit. Stop and rest and let God show you His plan.
"This is not ten easy steps to simplify your life. It's about connecting with God and allowing Him to guide you where you are supposed to be."
When God whispers into our day, "Where am I?" We should answer, "What do You want me to do today?" Billie recommends seeking Him in the first few minutes of every day, then continually go back throughout the day. Not out of guilt but because God always shows up when you show up. Be aware of God and make choices so you will hear, "Well done thy good and faithful servant."
Here is the hard simplicity of it, "Do the one next thing that draws you closer to Jesus."
