The Heart of the Author:
"Keep Christianity strange." The Bible belt is collapsing and that may not be a bad thing, in fact the future of the church is bright. Get rid of the us vs. them mentality and embrace the opportunity for church to return to the kingdom vision of the gospel. For too long we have focused on God and country and a moral majority that was neither.
"God is rescuing American Christianity from itself."
The scandal of Christianity is its exclusivity, there is not other way besides Jesus Christ. The way is truly narrow and we must all answer Jesus' question, "Who do you say that I am?"
It's time to quit "preaching the gospel to baptized pagans on the pews" and be prepared to share every nuance of the gospel. Not to add to our numbers, but to see real life change. Prioritizing values leaves us with a telemarketer Christianity and an almost gospel.
We are losing the culture but finding Christ when we focus on the eternal kingdom of God rather than the things of this world. Wherever we go and whatever we do, we are to spread the good news. This life is an internship, preparing us for a heavenly reality.
"I don't know who you are but there is a cemetery waiting for your corpse." If we live for this world, we get it and we get death. But if we live for Christ, we gain life.
We cannot disengage with the culture, nor can we thump our Bible. Instead, we speak the truth in love.
